If you want to obtain significant growth in 2018, from a stand which is highly targeted towards a specific cohort of visitors as well as having a stress-free exhibiting and travel experience, here are five good things to know.
1. Know the show – not the floorplan
Something we encourage exhibitors at all of our shows to think about is how well they know the floorplan. Regardless of which hall you’re exhibiting in (and IBC has 15), understanding the flow of visitors and which hall is known for what, will help you to maximise on your investment.
Unlike most shows, IBC does not create a “one size fits all” stand plan. Instead, the IBC team create a floorplan from scratch based on the joint needs of its exhibitors. This means you can book out as much space as you need, in whichever format you desire. However it does make it more difficult to plan ahead.
Ensure your exhibition design agency know this early on. Once the floorplan has been firmed up, your stand design can then be adapted logically to ensure you make the most of passing trade and the space available to you. Also familiarise yourself with other areas outside of your stand. For example did you know that the Business Centre, located in the passage under the Elicium, offers printing and copying? This can come in super useful for last minute errands when you don’t want to step off site.
2. Book flights and hotels early
Like any show in a major city, Amsterdam gets really busy during show period. Book flights and hotels early and don’t be afraid to stay a little out the way.
IBC’s tram service is easy to navigate and even outer-city apartments can be just six or seven stops away from the centre. For example, Utrecht is half an hour by intercity train from Amsterdam Central. There are four trains an hour from 6am until midnight and there is even an hourly night service outside these times.
IBC also often provide free tram passes with badges, which exhibitors and visitors can use to save money.
The show also offers all exhibitors a unique code which allows your contacts to register for free access to the IBC exhibition, even after the Early Bird deadline has passed. Use this to help any special guests, visitors or staff members get free access.
3. Think outside of the traditional product display
Like many technology-based shows, it can be easy at IBC to focus solely on products. This is where a good exhibition design agency will help you to think outside of the traditional product display. Do people really want to see yet another TV screen or video camera? Regardless of whether it’s the “new best thing”, think of a way to make it stand out.

4. Consider your ambition
According to IBC there are more than 1600 exhibitors spread across the show’s 15 halls. This makes for a lot of competition.
Consider your ambition at the show. In the key moment what will you be looking for? A visitor signing up to a mailing list? A CEO looking down smiling onto the show? 100 new people learning about your latest software?
There are many different ways to deliver your ambition within a show, the first step is to understand what that ambition is and then go from there.
5. Make the most of your experience!
Amsterdam is a great city with a culture that expands far beyond the show itself. Head to a park such as Beatrix park or the Vondelpark for some open space, grab some downtime at the NEMO Science Museum or wait until the doors close for a boat or barge trip down the river.
